The castle was
built in the 12th C. by the Pazzi family, whose coat of arms, sculpted by
Donatello, is still to be found in the courtyard. In the early 15th C. the
castle was enlarged and in 1465 the chapel was frescoed by Andrea del Castagno.
The castle was confiscated by the Medici in the wake of the conspiracy hatched
by the Pazzi in 1478 against Lorenzo the Magnificent. The estate covers 300
ha, 100 of which are vineyards.
