DESCRIPTION OF ESTATE
The cellars are located in a modern building
situated in the centre of Rùfina, surrounded by a garden of lime
and horse-chestnut trees. The farm is on the hills which go from Rùfina
up to Pomino. The winery where the grapes from the Grati vineyards are
made into wine is located in farmhouses situated inside the estate.
HISTORY OF THE ESTATE AND ITS PEOPLE
At the end of the nineteenth century the Grati
family produced wine and liqueurs (Vermut, Passito, Aleatico, Occhio di
pernice...) in the Rùfina area. In 1932, the family business was
divided up between brothers Federico and Giulio Grati; the latter moved
to Reggello where the Grati family owned another farm and here Giulio
built his winery calling it "Fattoria Le Coste". In 1948, Giulio and his
son Antonio brought their winemaking business back to Rùfina. Still
using the name "Le Coste", they decided to produce and market wine made
in that area.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNERS
Antonio Grati was born in 1927 and obtained
a certificate of non-graduate agricultural technician in Florence. In
1942 he began working alongside his father producing wine and then continued
the business by running and enlarging the "Le Coste" winery. In 1980,
his son Giulio, born in 1958, joined the company. After studying accountancy,
Giuliano took over the management of the family business and, in 1993,
he inherited complete responsibility for the company from his father.
Giuliano Grati is a qualified Sommelier.
