DESCRIPTION OF ESTATE
The "Fattorie di Galiga e Vetrice" farms are situated on the right side of the river Sieve at an altitude ranging between 200 and 1000 metres above sea level. On the lower slopes, olive-groves alternate with vineyards, whilst higher up there are woods full of chestnut-trees. The enological production is divided into various areas: winemaking is carried out in the vat-room with 37 steel containers, a "vin santo" (fortified wine) room and the cellars for ageing wines in wood casks are situated in the villa at Vetrice (a building whose origins go back to the XIIIth century, which was turned into an aristocratic residence in the sixteenth century). The bottling and selling of the wine is carried out at the Pontassieve premises, belonging to the Grati family. The "Galiga" hunting reserve, where pheasants and partridges can be hunted, is also part of the "Fattorie di Galiga e Vetrice", Tel. +39 055 8361310.

HISTORY OF THE ESTATE AND ITS PEOPLE
The Grati family has been involved in wine for at least five generations and, in the Rùfina area in particular, for hundreds of years. The Vetrice farm was purchased in 1950 and specialized vineyards were planted.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNER
Grato Grati is still in charge of the agronomical side today. For many years, Umberto was the driving force behind the enological and commercial success of the Grati Company. Gianfranco obtained an upper secondary school leaving certificate from the Agricultural School of Florence and, since 1960, has been working in the family business which he took charge of in 1980. His daughter, Cristiana, handles marketing, company administration and tourist reception. His son, Gualberto is a student at the Bocconi University.
