The estate consists of 11 hectares of specialized vineyard, entered on
the Chianti Rufina register, 27,30 hectares of mainly specialized olive-grove
with approximately 4000 plants, and 41 hectares of tall trees and copses.
The estate produces around 1000 hectoliters of wine, 30-40 quintals of
extra virgin olive oil and approximately 2000 kilos of pure unrefined
honey. The aging cellar, which dates back to the 13th century, is located
underneath the villa and contains 17 oak and chestnut barrels. Since 1997,
the company has chosen to adopt organic and bio-dynamic methods of cultivation,
i.e. without the use of synthetic chemical substances, in order to protect
the environment and the wholesomeness of the products which are certified
by a government recognized control body.
HISTORY OF THE ESTATE AND ITS PEOPLE
- The Fattoria Cerreto Libri is a typical agricultural and residential
settlement which, due to its history, architectural structures and selection
of crops, is one of the most well-consolidated examples of Tuscan tradition.
The 18th century villa situated between two large cedars of Lebanon
and overlooking a wood of cypresses has belonged to the ancient
Florentine Libri family since the end of the 18th century, when Camilla
di Paolo del Rosso brought it to the family as her dowry upon her marriage
to Massimiliano Libri.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNER
Massimiliano Baldini Libri, born in Florence
in 1920, is a descendant of the ancient Florentine Libri family which,
already back in the 13th century, was famous for its publishing business
and copying of classical manuscripts, hence the name De Libri
(tr. note: Libri is the Italian word for books).
Upon the death of his father in 1959, Libri, who has a degree in architecture
and is a competent viticulturist, almost completely abandoned his chosen
profession in order to run the estate alongside other family members.
