DESCRIPTION OF ESTATE
Nipozzano covers around 630 ha of hilly slopes
at an altitude ranging between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, just
beyond the place where the Sieve and Arno rivers join. In addition to
the vineyards, there are 60 ha of olive-grove, 35 ha of land for growing
crops, and tall and mixed copses. The viticulture at Nipozzano is carried
out on soil which is dry and rocky, with free clay or clay rich in limestone,
of a brown or yellowy brown colour. The fort of Nipozzano was built before
the year one thousand. Around 1450, the adjoining noble residence was
built. At present, the rooms under the ramparts contain "barriques" and
the antique cellars, whilst the villa situated further downstream, includes
a courtyard with private chapel, rooms for entertaining and cellars housing
the large oak casks. Just below the castle is the country village and
the Church of San Niccolò a Nipozzano, which dates back to 1217.
HISTORY OF THE ESTATE AND ITS PEOPLE
The castle of Nipozzano was originally built
for the Conti Guidi family. It then passed to the noble Florentine Albizi
family and from them to the Frescobaldi family, as the dowry of Leonia
degli Albizi upon her marriage to Angiolo de' Frescobaldi. In 1855 Vittorio
degli Albizi, ancestor of the present owners and expert viticulturist,
brought to Nipozzano the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties of vine
which have been cultivated to the present day.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNER

descend from an ancient and noble Florentine family dedicated to business
