DESCRIPTION OF ESTATE
The main building is a typical Tuscan farm
consisting of a regular three floor structure with a large internal courtyard.
The farm is surrounded by the garden on two sides, with the vineyards
and olive-groves extending along the upstream side, around the ancient
church of S. Martino a Quona. The cellars contain two vat rooms, the oldest
of which was built in 1809, when the farm was enlarged. The main entrance,
where direct sales of the farm's produce are carried out, leads to the
aging cellars. Walking through the aging barrels, it is possible to reach
the olive oil storeroom.
HISTORY OF THE ESTATE AND ITS PEOPLE
Veroni was originally a watch-tower belonging
to the Conti Guidi family who controlled a huge feud in the basins of
the rivers Arno and Sieve during the Middle Ages. From the Guidi family,
it then passed to the Modigliani family of Rùfina and from them,
at the beginning of the twentieth-century, the estate was purchased by
Dr. Carlo Malesci, the grandfather of the present owner. The Medieval
tower was incorporated into the farm building when it was enlarged at
the end of 19th century. In 1963/1969, first specialized vineyards and
olive-groves (3.000 plants) were planted. The old oil-mill was dismantled
in order to enlarge the cellars. Since 1998 the owners have began to extend
the vineyards and to replace them with new designated vineyards.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNER
Laura Malesci ran the estate from 1978 to 1996.
Her main contribution involved the renovation of the main building and
cellars, which was completed at the end of 1994. In 1997 her son Lorenzo
Mariani has taken over the management, carrying on the renovation and
reorganisation of the cellars. He has also started to renew the vineyards.
