The wine origins of the Grati family date back to the beginning of 1900, with Antonio Grati who in 1917 began the production of wines and spirits, then continued by his sons Federico and Giulio, founder, the latter, of the current Le Coste Winery. The company was perpetuated by his grandson (namesake of his grandfather) Antonio Grati, who was succeeded in 1985 by his son Giuliano, assisted in the business management by his father Antonio and his father-in-law Vittorio Pandolfi, son in turn of the founder of the Pandolfi cellars in Rufina.

The Fattoria di Rufina was purchased by Antonio Grati in 1954 and covers approximately 85 hectares. Of these, 5 hectares are planted with vineyards, 4 of which are specialized vineyards with Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia del Chianti and Colorino. New Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plants have recently been built.

In the area, the climate is particularly mild and scarcely humid, the mainly sandy-sandy soil and the southern exposure determine the excellent ripening of the grapes and the good alcohol content of the wines with substantially reduced production in the drier years.
The company is located within the territory of the “Chianti Rufina”, a hilly area with a temperate microclimate, where an excellent Chianti with a Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin (D.O.C.G.) is produced.
