The Castello del Trebbio, founded by the de’Pazzi family in the 12th century has been owned by the Baj Macario family since 1968. Since 1995 it has been managed directly by Anna Baj Macario and her husband Stefano Casadei who have transformed the property into a modern and dynamic company and oriented towards high quality productions.
It has a total area of about 350 hectares, 54 of which are affected by vineyards, mainly consisting of Sangiovese. The main focus of the company is in fact the enhancement of this grape variety: we are in the heart of Chianti Rufina, where Sangiovese finds its best expression in terms of elegance and longevity. To a lesser extent there are also other varieties both red (Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Merlot and Syrah), and white (Trebbiano, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Manzoni Bianco and Riesling), perfectly adapted to the territory and protagonists of specific projects. In addition to wine, the company produces an excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Anna’s true passion together with saffron.
The production of spelled has also started a few years ago and a cosmetics project is underway, exploiting the high antioxidant potential of oil and wine by-products.
Today, at Castello del Trebbio, the product chain is internal to the company, which works in full respect of nature, using Biointegrali® practices. A sustainable project that operates in the agricultural field through the use of biodynamic practices, in the energy field through the use of renewable energies and in the architectural field with the conservative recovery of buildings.
Finally, the company carries out agritourism and wine tourism activities, welcoming around 18,000 visitors each year attracted by the beauty of the landscape, the Biointegrale philosophy, the desire to discover the local products and, last but not least, the rich and fascinating history that characterizes the Castle: this place in fact, in 1478, the famous “Congiura de’Pazzi” was plotted.
