Fattoria Il Capitano is a family-run company that has been producing wine and oil according to tradition for generations, taking care of and cultivating its vineyards and olive groves nestled on the hills between the Arno and the Sieve, in the heart of Tuscany.
Towards the end of the 1800s the noble family of the Marquises Balbi of Genoa purchased some farms upstream of the capital of Pontassieve, a hilly area facing south, on whose side for centuries high quality wines and oils were produced. The company center, called “Fattoria il Capitano” is an imposing multi-storey building, built in 1911 and still used today as cellars for the vinification, maturation and aging of its own wines, withers and vinsantaia, offices and guesthouse.
The farm’s products range from the daily IGT Rosso Toscano, Bianco Toscano, Rosato Toscano, to the prestigious Chianti Rufina DOCG, both vintage and Riserva 2008 in Magnum bottle, to the more full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon in purity and barricade, up to the traditional Vin Santo DOC , passito meditation wine aged in caratelli for over four years. The Tuscan extra virgin olive oil is obtained from olives harvested early and pressed within 24 hours in a mechanical cold press: from this the intense green color, low acidity, the marked taste of a dietary product for all ages.
