The Il Pozzo farm is located on the hills around Rufina at 300-400 meters above sea level on the right bank of the Sieve river and includes about 50 hectares of woods, olive groves and vineyards.
The territory where the Podere is located has been inhabited since ancient times. In fact, during the excavations that prepare the land for the vineyards, numerous archaeological finds have been found, including a “Grosso Guelfo” (small silver coin minted in Florence in the thirteenth century depicting the patron saint of the city San Giovanni Battista) from which the vineyard in question took the name “Il Fiorino”.
Subsequently, the small village was the seat of a community of Jesuit friars ceded at the beginning of the 1700s and in the museum of Vine and Wine (in the Villa of Poggio Reale in Rufina) there are numerous documents that testify to the existence of the “Podere il Pozzo ”Since ancient times. The company was purchased in 1998 by the current owners who have given new impetus to the production of wines.
Particular care is now dedicated to the 10 hectares of specialized vineyard facing south east, entirely registered in the register of vineyards of the Chianti Rufina. The old promiscuous vineyards have been renewed and replaced with specialized and intensive vineyards, mainly cultivated with spurred cordon and in some cases with guyot.
The only exception is the “Vigna Vecchia” which is more than 60 years old, and has been kept intact in order to preserve the old indigenous clones of Sangiovese di Colorino, Canaiolo Ciliegiolo, Mammolo, and other minor ones. It is cultivated with the traditional Tuscan inverted bow. The Chianti Rufina Podere “Il Pozzo Riserva” comes from this vineyard.
We have always attached great importance to respect for the environment and the use of as natural processing methods as possible. Today all the cultivations and processes that take place in the “Podere Il Pozzo” company comply with the organic processing method and are subject to control and certification systems.
